Why do I have a snowy pic on a LCD TV?

I have a 42in LCD and no matter what i am watching (HD cable, Blu-Ray, PS3) i get snow in dark areas of the screen. I have had the tv for a year and a half, but I just started noticing it when I got my Blu-Ray. I think it is just the tv. Has anyone heard of this and is there a solution to it besides a more expensive HDTV?
