Should we file jointly or not?

My husband and have a comdined income of 35k. 8200 of that was untaxed umemployment (3500him,4700 me) and i made 5000 part time. Also apart from that my husband has 401k and pays working dues. We have one child and rent we also heat and hot water. Should we file together and which would give us more back. We also got married Dec.31. Help in NYC
